(which, as i have already mentioned, has been turned into a film!)

in it, the main character, toru, is hopelessly in love with the

emotionally unavailable, mentally unstable beauty, naoko.

following her around the city streets in japan and later visiting

her at a mental hospital in the mountainous country side, she

is distinguishable throughout the story by her signature barrette-
